The 109th Westy Hogans (2015)

The 2016 Westy Hogans is now history. The shoot, shot under perfect weather conditions, saw increased entries for all 5 events. The total entries were the highest since 2007.

Luke Coward, now shooting in the junior class, bagged the Event 1 Class Singles (639 entries) with a perfect 100 straight. Debbie Ohye Neilson (100) and Donna Natcher (99) turned in winning scores for the Lady 1 and Lady 2 categories. Doug Divello, a 24 yarder from Malone, NY, won the Event 2 Preliminary Handicap (590 entries) with a field high 99x100. Neilson won the coveted "Lady of America" crown, her eighth, combining Events 1 and 2 with 194x200. Michele Archambeault of Northboro, MA, was runner-up with 192.

Saturday saw sunny skies greet the 658 singles entries. Brad Heath of Binghamton, NY, won the Event 3 Singles Championship with a perfect 200. It was his third major Westy Hogans title, having won the HOA back in 2007 and last years doubles title. Brad would go on to the the 2016 HAA and HOA titles. Other perfect scores were turned by Luke Cowart, Kennett Square, Lester Ott, Lock Haven, PA and Urban Womer, Skaneateles, NY. Ohye and Natcher repeated their wins from the day before in the two lady categories.

Another great day greeted the 405 entries in the Event 4 Doubles Championship. Harlan Campbell, ten time All American Captain (22 selections) out of Tribune KS, turned in a field high 100 straight to win his second Hogans doubles title, last winning in 2013. Brad Heath won the Class AAA award with 98. Event 5, Amerigo Pagliaroli Handicap Championship, was won by Dave Bicknell, a 27 yarder from East Haven, CT. Dave had a field high 97x100 over 557 entries. Finishing one target behind was Frank Lorah Sr. of Fleetwood, PA. Frank took the Sr. Vet title.

The 108th Westy Hogans (2015)

The annual Westy Hogans Tournament was completed on Sunday on a cold and windy day. On Saturday, the singles championship was held in an all day rain storm which dumped over an inch of rain on the home grounds. The shoot attracted 787 shooters from 18 states. Hani Hafez of  Wilton, CT, shooting from the 25 yard line, claimed his first Westy Hogans handicap title with a 97, the lowest score in the handicap championship since the shoot moved to Elysburg in 2003. Hani also won the singles crown back in 1984 with a 200 straight at Pine Belt, NJ, 31 years between championships.  Michael Hoover of Tyrone, PA did not miss a singles target during the tournament, breaking 100 straight to claim the AAA title in the singles class championship, than broke a 200 straight to win the Westy Hogans singles title for the first time. Jon Zadzora of Slatington, PA finished second with a 200. Brad Heath of Binghamton, NY broke a field high 98 for the doubles crown. This was his second major Hogans title, winning the HOA back in 2007. John Paul Manetta II won the HAA and the HOA titles. Manetta is a former Westy Hogans doubles champion, winning that title in 2012. His father, John Manetta,  once owned this shoot, winning three doubles and three HAA crowns. Both are from Berwick, PA. The preliminary handicap title went to Edward Sharpe of Clifton, NJ with a field high 99 from 19.5 yards. Debbie Ohye Neilson and Luke Cowart each took home seven awards.

Sheila Clark of Tannersville, PA won her first Lady of America title with a 193 while Doug Pfaff of Chestertown, MD won the Westy Hogans Challenge with a 194.

The 107th Westy Hogans (2014)

is now history. Shooting in perfect weather, 829 shooters faced the Star traps for the last time. Next year the PSSA will install all new PAT traps. Targets were up in all 5 events over last year.

Michael Lipetz of Kensington, CT broke 200 to secure the singles title. Greg Presson of Schwenksville and Mark Invidiato of Basking Ridge, NJ also turned in perfect scores. Michael Blaisdell of Keen, NH turned in the only perfect 100 to win the twin bird crown. Blaisdell owns this club. Harlan Campbell Jr. of Tribune, KS won the Handicap title with a 98 from 27 yards. Harlan is a 19 time All American and the current team captain. Paul Kozemko of Mountain Top, PA and Eugene Patrick of  Grassflat, PA also had 98's. Campbell also secured the HAA and also defended his HOA title. Debbie Ohye Neilson won her 9th Lady of America title while winning seven awards, including the Lady I HAA and HOA titles. She also won the Lady I doubles crown. Richard Shaffer of Windber and Kay Ohye tied for the Westy Hogans Challenge with 193x200. Shaffer took the trophy by forfeit. Lisa Long won the Lady II HOA while Kim Bateman won the Lady II HAA. Christian Koerbler of Germansville, PA won six Sub-Junior awards while Ian Darroch of Aliquippa, PA won 6 Junior Gold titles. Flashback to the state shoot when Ian won 15 times.

After the singles championship on Saturday the PSSA held a reception for Chuck and Becky Fritzges. Chuck was the long time shoot manager for all the PSSA shoots at Elysburg. Becky was a PSSA cashier. Both had a combined 80+ years of service for the PSSA.

The 106th Westy Hogans (2013)

was a huge success. ATA shooters from 19 states shot at 314,300 targets, up 51,100 targets from a year ago. Every event saw an increase in entries from last year. All three days supplied perfect shooting weather. Harlan Campbell, the ATA Hall of Famer and 18 time All American (including 7 captains selections) from Kansas, won three of the five major shooting events (singles, doubles, HOA) in the first Westy Hogans owned and run by the PSSA. After 105 years the old Westy Hogans industry group disbanded in January of this year. The HAA was secured by Robert Malmstedt of New Jersey. This was his 9th major Westy Hogans title, including his third HAA. He also won the Westy Hogans Challenge, his fourth. In a huge surprise, 18.5 yarder James Gontar of Northampton broke 100 straight to lead the field in the championship handicap Sunday afternoon. His 100 straight was the first at the Westy Hogans since 1952, 61 years ago. It is also only the second perfect score in Hogans history. In 1952 George Granger of Flemington, NJ broke 100 at Asbury Park, NJ.
